NICOLA VRUWINK

CURATED BY JENNIFER GATELY

If nostalgia could be woven into tangible form, it might look something like Nicola Vruwink’s latest exhibition, I Just Want To Be Your Everything, opening September 7th at The Jones Institute at Minnesota Street Project. Vruwink’s work doesn’t just reference the past—it reclaims it, offering a textured meditation on memory, music, and the intimate act of creation.

In a digitized world offering over-consumption and disposable everything, Vruwink’s crocheted wall hangings, made from vintage cassette tape, feel like a revelation. The tapes, once vessels of sound, have been transformed into visual art that hums with the echoes of pop culture’s golden age. These works are not merely about the music of the 70s and 80s; they are about the way music inscribes itself on our lives, how lyrics can shape identity, and how objects can become artifacts of emotion and connection.
